Old Sandford Farm , (Hurricana Stud Farm) Historic Site in Amsterdam NY, one of the oldest Thoroughbred Farms in the State, A few barns remain of what use to be one of the oldest thoroughbred farms in the state. In 1870s Stephen Sandford was advised to buy a farm and couple horses and enjoy relaxing atmosphere in the country away from his carpet business. The decision would led to be one of the largest and most recognized Thoroughbred Facilities in the nation. The purple and gold colors of the Sandford Farm , also known as Hurricana for the winds that blew over the Mohawk Valley. Today only a few of the buildings remain . The training track is a shopping mall and the monuments memorializing Sandford winners have all been removed from their original places of honor.
